Day 11 in Singapore: Recovery and Philosophy

After walking more than 10 km almost every day over the past few days, this Sunday was all about rest. We spent most of the day at home to give our muscles the time they needed to recover.

Short outings in Hougang

In the afternoon we headed to Hougang Mall for a little change of scenery and treated ourselves to some ice cream. We ended the evening together with my mother-in-law at the Hougang bus interchange, where we enjoyed a relaxed dinner.

Thoughts and an election campaign

I used the day to write and to reflect. I spent a lot of time with philosophy in general and with Aristotle in particular. Social media was part of it, too: I read a lot about the election campaign back home in Germany on Facebook. Even though some people there try to provoke me, I stay calm and prefer to answer with philosophical composure.

A fitting quote from Aristotle came to mind:

“It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it.”

That describes my attitude right now perfectly: I take note of other opinions and engage with them, but I don’t let them get to me.

Sometimes a quiet day is exactly what you need to sort your thoughts before the journey continues.
