Now that all the flight chaos meant we were stuck in Singapore for a few more days, we decided to make the best of it. We urgently needed some distance and exercise. So we took the train to Punggol for a short walk by the water.
The weather was extremely hot, but luckily the sun disappeared behind the clouds now and then.
Starting point at Waterway Point

We started at Waterway Point (right by “The Boardwalk” at the square with the giant colouring pencils). From there we walked east along the Punggol Waterway (the canal). The banks are incredibly beautifully designed. Everything is man-made, but the countless green plants are a real visual highlight and give wonderful shade in the heat.

The paved path is perfectly maintained. However, you have to follow strict rules: fishing, swimming and smoking are absolutely forbidden here – and clear signs everywhere make that very clear.
Our bridge route along the canal
The route is really fantastically laid out, and we used four landmarks to find our way:

• 🟢 Start: Waterway Point.
• 🔵 The turning point in the east: after about 1.5 kilometres we reached the brown Adventure Bridge (a suspension bridge). Standing right in the middle and looking out over the river and all the greenery made a beautiful picture. This is where we crossed the canal.
• 🟡 Heading west: on the other bank we walked back and passed the Punggol Arc Bridge, which immediately stands out with its large white arch.
• 🔴 Relaxing in the west: we continued to the Jewel Bridge with its striking dome. There we sat down quietly for a while and simply relaxed.

Barrier-free and full of activities
What I particularly liked: the path is extremely easy to walk and would also be perfect for a wheelchair. Singapore really has thought of everyone here. You can also cycle there, and on the water people were out in kayaks and pedal boats. I loved it there. If I had known beforehand how perfect the route is, I would have brought my Nordic walking poles!
Back at our starting point, Waterway Point, we rewarded ourselves with an absolutely heavenly drink: avocado and mango with fresh coconut water. Exactly the right thing after this walk in the heat!
It was a truly peaceful and lovely day.
