Travel diary: from the Bavarian cold to tropical summer
The start: a touch of luxury in Munich
Our trip began after work with the drive to the Novotel at Munich Airport. Right at check-in we felt a touch of luxury – exactly the right thing to leave everyday life behind. The room welcomed us in an elegant dark green with warm lighting. Since the winter cold was still in our bones, we enjoyed the bathtub first before falling into the soft beds.
Take-off with heart
After a big breakfast we went straight to the terminal. Boarding with Etihad was impressively attentive: a staff member noticed that we are deaf passengers and immediately coordinated everything with the crew on board. The flight attendant took the time to explain the safety instructions to us personally – a service that made us feel very welcome.
Abu Dhabi and the “King of the Skies”
The stopover in Abu Dhabi felt majestic; the architecture of the airport hall made us feel like emirs. But the real highlight was waiting at the gate: the Airbus A380-800. When we stepped on board, our jaws almost dropped – the sheer size and the 3-4-3 seating are enormous.
Even though we cannot hear the engines, we could feel the enormous thrust of this giant with our whole body during take-off. The view from the large oval windows onto the huge wings was simply spectacular.
Arrival in Singapore: heat, warmth and pizza
Shortly before landing in Singapore we flew a lap of honour over the city before the pilot touched down safely. At passport control there was a particularly lovely moment: the officer understood our situation immediately and told us with the finger alphabet that we should use a special lane.
From the airport we took a taxi straight away – in our thick winter clothes we could hardly stand the tropical heat! After a short rest at my parents-in-law’s we visited the rest of the family. We ended our first evening very relaxed with a pizza.
A great start to our adventure!
