After a hearty breakfast, we set off on another big day of walking. We went to Ang Mo Kio to meet our Singaporean companion again. Together we took bus 138 towards the zoo – a one-hour ride that took us right into the wilderness.
Adventure in Rainforest Wild Asia

First we explored the rainforest. The trail was a real adventure:

We walked over tree trunks, past flowing streams and along rocky paths, while deer crossed our way.

Don’t forget to bring enough to drink here, because the jungle is extremely humid.

Especially fascinating were the babirusas (“deer pigs”) with their long tusks, which almost look as if they had been drilled through the snout – quite an unusual sight!
An absolute highlight were the free-roaming monkeys.

You really have to be careful here: never hold leftover food or drink bottles openly in your hands. The monkeys are quick and run right in front of you, which can also be dangerous. Everything has to be put away safely in your bag at once. Staff kept a close eye on the paths while two different species of monkey romped around us.

After a look at the tigers and a visit to the spectacular bat cave – impressive with great lighting, snakes and scorpions – we moved on.

Diving into River Wonders
A small shuttle bus took us over to River Wonders. There we felt as if we were on the Amazon.

Huge aquariums showed the colourful fish of the jungle rivers, and we learned a lot about the animals that live along the great rivers of the world.

After a short break with chilled coconut juice, we were lucky:

Although the shows were actually fully booked, they turned a blind eye and still let us into the animal show.
Showtime and panda calm
The show was not only entertaining but also a great lesson in protecting the environment:
• The clever grey parrot: an African grey parrot threw plastic bottles around, showing that rubbish absolutely does not belong in the jungle.
• Animal rubbish collection: an otter then tidied up the plastic bottles and threw them into the bin.
• More stars: later some pelicans came by, and we watched the very well-behaved capybaras being fed.
Finally, we visited the panda enclosure. The panda sat on a branch as if turned to stone, hardly moved and only took a few tiny steps before returning to its spot.
Before leaving the park, we took another break at the huge aquarium and watched the manatees calmly swimming their laps.
After this long walk we were as hungry as panda bears. We went back to Ang Mo Kio and enjoyed a Japanese dinner together. After so many hours in the sun, my skin is getting darker and darker – you can tell we spend a lot of time outdoors!
It was a really great day.
