After finally getting a proper lie-in, we started the day in a relaxed way. At Clarke Quay we met a deaf friend and strolled together through the canyons of buildings and past interesting street sculptures.

Our plan to climb one of the green skyscrapers for a panoramic view didn’t work out this time – but Singapore had a completely different highlight in store for us.

High tea at the Fullerton Hotel: A touch of history

We visited the venerable Fullerton Hotel, which used to be the city’s General Post Office.

The interior is beautifully nostalgic and radiates a very special calm. We decided to treat ourselves to something really special: a luxurious afternoon tea.
It felt as if we were important business people in another era. The tea table was a true work of art:
• The tiered stand: the finest delicacies were stacked on the multi-level stand.
• Patisserie at its best: from delicate flower-shaped tartlets to bright orange creations.
• Pure tradition: classic scones with cream and savoury bites rounded off the experience.

Surrounded by palm trees and warm light, we enjoyed this quiet moment of elegance – something I had never experienced like this before.
In the middle of a sea of skyscraper lights
Later a deaf friend joined us, and together we walked through the breathtaking district of glittering skyscrapers.

I kept having to look up; this vertical architecture is simply fascinating. We crowned the evening with a big seafood dinner together with more friends of my wife.

We chatted and exchanged so much that I almost felt I was forgetting the German language. After this lovely celebration we took a taxi back. A day like a modern fairy tale!
