Day 14: Rest, Traditions and an Encounter with a Clown

After two days full of long walks, it was time to shift down a gear. We spent the day relaxing at home to recharge our batteries. I used the quiet to work on my drafts – my „second job“ as an author of philosophical texts doesn’t let go of me, even when I’m travelling. Even without Wi-Fi, I managed to capture my thoughts.

A culinary ritual in Ang Mo Kio

At around 6 pm we set off for Ang Mo Kio to meet deaf friends for dinner. Before the meal, we kept up a special tradition: we took a group photo before the ingredients (typical for Chinese New Year) were tossed into the air amid loud cheering.

As a European, I always find this exchange of customs fascinating and enriching.

Meeting a globetrotter

Later, at Starbucks, we made a very special acquaintance: we met a Frenchman who travels the world as a well-known clown. He has already visited countless countries, including Nepal and the Himalayan region. We got on straight away and had a lively conversation in International Sign.

His trademark on Instagram is doing a handstand in front of famous sights. But behind the show there is a big heart: he performs as a clown to raise donations for schools for the deaf.

A great guy! As he would say: Beaucoup Bas!

This mix of rest and inspiring conversations was exactly what we needed.
